What the Fifth Empire Actually Is

The origin: a dream nobody could read

In the Book of Daniel there’s a scene. King Nebuchadnezzar dreams of an enormous statue. A head of gold. Arms of silver. A torso of bronze. Legs of iron. And the feet — iron mixed with clay. Brittle.

Nobody in his court can interpret the dream. Daniel can. He says: the statue is four kingdoms, arriving one after another. Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman. Each one great, each one built on power, each one harder and more fragile than the last.

And then a stone comes. Cut by no human hand. It strikes the feet of clay, and the whole statue collapses. The stone becomes a mountain that fills the entire earth.

The Fifth Empire is that stone. Not made by human hands. Not made of metal. And not built on what the other four were built on.

The misunderstanding: we hear „empire“ and think conquest

Luke said something that stayed with me: the word empire has been divorced from its original meaning. We hear it and think of Rome, of the British Empire, of Star Wars. Of domination. Of a structure that subjugates.

But an empire is first of all just this: an order that holds. A field in which many people orient toward something shared. Whether that happens through force or through something else — that’s the real question.

And Luke makes an observation that’s hard to argue with: no empire can dominate today. Not America, not China, not Russia. All of them compete, none achieves what Alexander or Rome achieved. There’s no unifying narrative left to hold it together.

He doesn’t read that as decline. He reads it as precondition. The feet are made of clay.

The core: an empire of coherence

The FiVth manifesto puts it plainly: Not an empire of land. Not an empire of power. An empire of coherence. A civilisation where each human is fully aligned to their own blueprint. Where the soul is not suppressed — but awakened.

And from that follows the chain that carries the whole idea:

When the soul awakens, truth emerges. When truth emerges, alignment follows. And when alignment stabilises across many individuals, society reorganises itself.

No politics. No revolution. No overthrow. The claim is that a civilisation changes as a byproduct of enough people becoming coherent.

That’s a big claim. And also the only one I’ve ever seen confirmed in my own life.

The line that got me: not assigned, remembered

The manifesto describes an image from the old temples: there, each person knew their role. Not because it was assigned to them — but because they remembered it. Each expression precise. Each contribution necessary. From this, coherence emerged. From coherence, abundance.

When I read that, I thought of the line I’ve been repeating here for years: You’re not learning. You’re remembering.

The manifesto says almost exactly the same thing: This is not a new idea. It is a remembering. It has lived in the temples, the teachings, the lineages of many paths. Spoken in different languages, held in different symbols, yet pointing to the same truth.

The end of competition

And then comes the line everything turns on:

We were never meant to compete for place. We were meant to embody it.

When each individual steps fully into their own design, they stop searching. They stop comparing. They stop competing. And they begin to build. Together.

Why Portugal

The prophecy has been carried there for eight centuries. Fernando Pessoa sang it. Padre António Vieira before him. Luke traces it further back — to the Knights Templar, who spent nine years excavating beneath the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and afterwards came to Portugal. Tomar, the Convento de Cristo — built, he says, as an energetic reproduction of Jerusalem.

Portugal carries a second name: Porto do Graal — the doorway of the Holy Grail. And in this reading the Grail isn’t a vessel. It’s a connection: to the part of us that doesn’t perish.

And what this has to do with you

Here’s where it gets concrete. Because if any of this holds, the work isn’t out there. It’s in here.

The manifesto ends with a line that protects the whole thing from itself:

What we build physically — communities, systems, places — are simply reflections of this coherence. Not the source.

And the Fifth Empire is not something we build. It’s something we enter.

Luke even offers an instrument for measuring it, and I love it because it’s so unspectacular: lightness. How heavy you feel, how seriously you take things, how much weight you give yourself — that tells you whether you’re in ego or in spirit. The closer you get, the lighter it becomes.

Es darf leicht sein. It’s allowed to be light. I’ve been saying that here for years. I didn’t know it was also a compass.

That’s why this conversation landed the way it did. A relaxed body, a soft heart, an open mind — that isn’t only self-care. Read this way, it’s the smallest building block of a different world.
